| Jumla
to Rara Lake trek: |
| Rara
Lake, situated at 2980m is the focal destination in trekking of Western
Nepal. The route is very much off the beaten track and offers glimpses
of cultures and scenery very different from those in the rest of Nepal.
This route comprises lots of up and down walking through forests and
isolated villages leads to a high altitude lake surrounded by woods.
This trek gives you an absolutely wilderness experience. Accommodation
and supplies in this route is very poor. All camping gears and foodstuff
have to be transported from Nepalgunj via Jumla by flight. |

| Jumla
to Lower Dolpo: |
| Dolpo
is isolated from the rest of Nepal by high passes to the south,
it is also known as Ba-Yul or the Hidden Land. The entire district
was closed to foreigners until 1989. In 1990 individual trekkers
were allowed into this region but upper Dolpo still remains
subject to high special permit and bureaucratic formalities.
Accommodation and supplies are very poor. A complete organized
camping trek is the only way to explore this region. |

Lake is a very dramatic one, which dinotes the name to Shey Phoksumdo
National Park established in 1981. The park is said to abound
in wildlife, though the most spectacular inhabitants -snow leopards
and herds of blue sheep- are found primarily near Shey Gompa. The
region above Shey Gompa is restricted and if you want to go beyond,
you will need an special permit and special arrangement. The lake
and trail are snowbound from mid-November to mid-May. |
