| From the north of the
Himalayas Tibet beckons. Long close to foreign travelers, Tibet
exerted a strong pull on the imagination of the world. Tibet’s
immense, stark, grand plateau, its warm cheerful Buddhist tradition,
imbued with mysticism, appeared to many embodiment of the mythical
Shangrila. Travel to early Tibet required a good deal of courage
and luck, and for those hardy, intrepid explorers and adventurers
at the turn for the century, Lhasa
the forbidden city truly epitomized the ultimate travel
destination. Tibet’s remoteness, its haunting magical beauty
continues to captivate the imagination of travelers. |

| CLIMATE: |
| Tibet is cold
in winter, cool in summer and generally dry, receiving only
45cm.(18 inches) of rain or snow annually. Temperatures can
vary greatly within a day, however, passing 29* C (85* F) in
desert areas in summer and plunging below 4*C (40*F) at night.
The higher you go the colder it gets. Sunlight is extremely
intense. Winds
in winter are ferocious. Rainfall in southern Tibet occurs intermittently
between June and September, bringing moisture to barley fields
and greenery to the Valleys. The best months for travel are
April to October. |
|
|
CLOTHING: |
Clothing

as temperatures vary during day. A warm windbreaker and stout, comfortable
shoes are specially recommended. Formal attire such as necktie or
dress is never needed. |
|
OTHER

Sunscreen

a salve for the lips and a hat; any personal medicines including
