TREASURE
TROVE IN SOCIAL ACTIVITIES: |
|
When the Monsoon clouds
rises from the Bay of Bengal, the Himalayas see little tourists,
Chimey packs his belongings and makes his way up to the land
of the Lop-pas. |
| Where he serves a Nunnery,
some – 380 years old this Nunnery – Gargen Chyoling is a treasure
trove of old and rare scriptures, statues, thankas, replicas
and houses 40+ nuns… old and novice. |
|
This
Gargen Chyoling believes and follows the Drukpa Kargyu sect of Tibetan
Buddhism. “Drukpa Kargyu”, the school that came into existence in
1455 A.D., when the Master of Mahamudra and Dzokchen, a Tibetan
Mahasiddha – the Naljorpa Drukpa Kunley takes birth in the year
of wood-pig in the eigth cycle (1455 AD). |
|
Drukpa
Kunley is not only revered in Tibet but resides in the heart of
all Himalayan people. His style, his humour, his compassion, his
manner of relating to people, won him a place in the heart of all
Himalayan peoples – The Meon-pas from extreme North- East of India,
The Druk-pas (Bhutanese), The Denzong-pas (Sikkimese), The Sher-pas,
Manang-pas, Lo-pas of Nepal and the Ladhak-pas of Kashmir. |
|
Gargen
Chyoling seats at the slope of the peace-ful valley and one can
find it at the right slope when finishing Thorung-La. And serves
the four adjoining ancient villages of Lower Mustang – The Zhong,
Putak, Porang and Zhar. |
|
| The region is not that
remote as it falls on the way of very popular trail – Annapurna
Circuit. But the hand ful of people are having the benefits
from tourism and the villages are still lacking many essential
things. We have recently established a health post for the village
people and a plan to set up a school is under process. |
|
|
|
Chimey
is presently teaching in Gargen Chyoling and serving villages around
as a volunteer (during Monsoon). Any help extended towards us is
highly appreciated in this noble cause…used clothes, medicines,
stationaries so on… |
